In Kamanyola in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, police and army personnel shot and killed around 30 people under unclear circumstances. Activists and opposition party leaders claim that the victims were Burundian refugees who were killed while resisting deportation. The DRC government has denied those claims, and instead are insisting that an unidentified armed group had attack a national intelligence agency office, killing several soldiers before being repelled.
