Eight people were killed and seventeen injured when a Senegalese Air Force Mil Mi-17 transport helicopter crashed near Missira while travelling from Ziguinchor in Casamance to Dakar. The helicopter was carrying twenty passengers, including four crew. Three of the crew, Colonel El Hadj Mamadou Toure, Captain Emmanuel Sarr and Chief Warrant Officer Thiendella Fall, lost their lives in the accident.

The cause of the crash is not yet known, but a Senegalese armed forces spokesperson told reporters that warning lights had come on in the aircraft and that it was attempting an emergency landing when it went down. [source]
